This is my first ready to go piece of plastic armor. After much R&D I have come up with this super light and strong elbow protection, which is fully legal for SCA heavy combat by meeting the legal standard of rigid material. (check your area in case the rules are tighter.)

These cops weigh in at under 8 ounces (200 grams).

Made from 1/4" High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), this elbow is as light as you can get and as protective as you need.

Recommendations for padding

For padding, I recommend wearing a neoprene compression sleeve on your arm, and a little closed-cell foam on the cop. Compression sleeves are available in many sporting goods stores, and usually run around $20.

This style of padding has many benefits:
  • takes much of the sting out of arm shots
  • helps to support your elbow
  • prevents pinching
  • depending on the style, may have extra elbow padding
